Are you in the social or the private sector?
Social Sector Tenants
You will be in the social sector if you landlord is a social landlord. So if your landlord is one of the following:
- A Local Authority / Council
- A housing association
Renters Guide does not cover social housing. See our Further Advice Services article, which lists places where you may be able to find help.
Private Sector Tenants
You will be in the private sector if your landlord is a private sector landlord. So if your landlord is one of the following:
- A landlord whose property is managed by a High Street or online letting agency
- A private landlord who is self-managing his (or her) property
- A large commercial landlord renting residential accommodation (including student lets)
- A ‘lodger landlord’ renting a room in their own home
