The Renters Guide is run by solicitors Tessa Shepperson and Harriet Thomas, both of whom are happy, subject to their availability, to speak to researchers and take part in programs.

You can find out a bit more about the Renters Guide generally from our About Us page.

Tessa SheppersonTessa Shepperson

Tessa has been a solicitor since 1990 and is best known for her Landlord Law Blog and Landlord Law, her online service for landlords which she started in 2001.

Tessa can help if you need someone for general tenancy matters, and landlords and tenants legal rights and responsibilities, including tenancy agreements, HMOs, eviction and tenancy deposit issues.

However, Tessa does not cover conveyancing or financial matters (such as mortgages).  Neither does she speak on long leases or general property law matters (other than in general terms).

Subject to availability Tessa is happy to talk to researchers, and take part in programs.  She is based in Norwich, Norfolk within walking distances of the BBC East Norwich studios in the Forum.

Tessa has in the past appeared on BBC TV News commenting on landlord & tenant related news items.   Radio appearances include Radio 4 Moneybox, Legal Hour on LBT, Radio Five Live, Radio Norfolk and several other local radio programs speaking on landlord and tenant issues, as well as general interest programs (for example Radio Norfolk ladies at lunch).

She has also featured in many newspapers and magazines such as The Times, the Daily Mail and the Eastern Daily Press, and writes a regular column in Property Investor News magazine.

To contact Tessa please email media @landlordlaw.co.uk or telephone 01603 763096 and leave a message.

Harriet ThomasHarriet Thomas

Harriet qualified as a solicitor in January 2009. Since then she has been working with various well established charitable organisations defending and advocating on behalf of socially excluded people, with a particular focus on homeless and vulnerably housed people.

Harriet has worked as a Services Development Coordinator with Crisis at Christmas, and a Duty Advocate at the Local County Courts.

In 2020, Harriet, as a part of the Brixton Advice Centre, received the LawWorks award for pioneering an innovative Online Legal Clinic to serve the Community during the official lockdown.

Harriet is a Landlord and Tenant Law specialist. This differs from Property Law, Conveyancing and Leasehold related matters, upon which she can only offer a layman’s opinion.

Similar to Tessa, Harriet is happy to speak with researchers and take part programs. She is based in London and so can easily access any London-based media agency.
