In the past many letting agents used to charge high fees to tenants for things like tenancy agreements and ‘administration’.
However, letting agents’ and landlords’ right to charge fees was changed by the Tenant Fees legislation in 2019. Now there are very few fees that can be charged, and if agents charge unauthorised fees they can be penalised in the courts.
For details on the fees that can be charged, see our free guide linked below (which applies to agents as well as landlords).
