Short answer – probably yes, but it depends on what it is.
So if your work is computer work or something which does not impact on the property on your neighbours then almost certainly yes.
There is a difference between home working (ie doing work for your employer – such as school teachers marking lessons, or office staff working from home by computer, and actually running a business there.
If the work your employer wants you to do is something like repairing cars in your front garden, which would almost certainly breach some of the terms of your tenancy agreement, then this is not something you can do.
However most people working for their employer from home are doing office work, generally on a computer, and there is nothing your landlord can object to with that.
