Check Your Occupation Type

Your tenancy will be an Assured Tenancy.

This is the most common form of tenancy and is the tenancy type most often referred to on this site.

Prior to 1 May 2026 you would probably have had an Assured Shorthold Tenancy.  However these were abolished under the Renters Rights Act and all Assured Shorthold Tenancies and indeed all Assured Tenancies with a fixed term, were converted to Assured Periodic Tenancies.

We tend to refer to Assured Periodic Tenancies as APTs.

Note that if you have answered all the questions correctly you will have an APT even if your landlord has not given you a written tenancy agreement or has made you sign a document which says you have some other form of tenancy (or license).
